RaduP; It sounds as if you can disregard the probability of a stack problem. The stack is the line-up of torque transmitting elements such as the drum clutches, planetary gear train, band clutches and sprague clutch. Doesn't seem like a pump problem or a torque convertor problem. So I'd say it's a control problem but not a govenor problem. That leaves the valve body. Which is good if I'm right because it doesn't require pulling the gearbox out and rebuilding it. If you are motivated to fix this find an independant Saab shop (unless you know of a dealership with Saab master tech's. from the '80s who have T-37 experience) that has confidence (experience) in swapping valve bodies on T-37's. Be sure you get a valve body that's been cleaned and inspected thoroughly and is known to have shifted perfectly in its previous gearbox. (No small demand). Unfortunately their is a chance that you'll put it in and have the same problem. My confidence is 70-80% here. Would be higher if I could drive the car. More testing could be done but it would probably cost about the same as just swapping the V.B. and lead to the same conclusion. Put another way: If this car had come into my bay when I was doing these for a living I would lift it up and stick in a known good V.B. first thing. Slap on a new filter while they're in there and have them check the differential oil. Check the accumulators and replace their springs if needed. Make real sure to readjust the shift lever detent afterwards (or kiss your tranny' goodbye) Good luck, hope that I'm not steering you wrong. Get a second opinion.
