for background, See link to previous thread, posted yesterday

Ok, got some spring compressors, 2 screw and hook type from autozone on loan, and 2 oem lower balljoint bolts and locking nuts from my local saab tech. how much should I expect to compress the spring to get 3/4" inch? I can't get the hooks underneath the bottom of the spring exactly. In trying to just compress the middle section of the spring ,as the compressors will allow, the bottom spring section doesnt seem to be getting smaller and the gap between the A-arm and body is not forming.

Can I compress the middle section of the spring as far as the compressors will allow without damaging the spring?

can I risk imperfect compressor placement? For example: compressors at 180 degrees from eachother but hook on 1 side going to bottom of spring, while the other side is up 180deg around the spring? I figure that the spring should be compressed uniformly to keep it on straight, but can this factor be fudged a little and remain a safe practice?

should I disconnect the shock absorber? I think i will have to, but is there a workaround? if i take the shock off, how will i get it back on once i have the bolts in again?
Thanks for the responses, Im hoping to get her back on the road.

PS Currently, the SPG is in my parents driveway, because it died while i was in town. I live 600 miles away from them, and shortly after she broke down I was given a 95 4runner in excellent shape, and based on my needs it makes more sense economically to drive the toyota and find myself another SPG later on down the road, AFTER graduate school and whatever else is finished.
This isnt her only problem, shes rusting out in a few places that would demand bodywork and oil is leaking from the eng/trans, oilcooler and 1 other mysterious place. when shes drivable again, she will be up for sale at a low price in the verynear-Chicago Area
