jocelyn, Your steering would be stiff for one or more of these reasons; steering shaft bearing worn out/seized (likely), steering shaft u-joint seizing (likely), rack problem (rare with this symptom), left or right tie rod problem (also not a typical symptom), P.S. pump defect (high on the list), P.S. belt problem (high on list) or a P.S. fluid problem (high prob.). The only way that this would be a P.S. hose problem would be if a hose was plugged up. I've never seen that but I suppose it's possible. This all assumes that your system is filled with good fluid and not leaking, like you said. If the steering is getting progressively harder, and you aren't mechanical, then you would be well advised to have a Saab mechanic check it out. If you have a good independant Saab shop in your area that's where to go. Some of the problems I've listed aren't really entry level mechanic fixes and need to be done right for safety reasons. Even just replacing the P.S. belt on a C900 is a bit of a task. Most independants will take a look and give you the lowdown for no charge. If you want to get that boot off to see the U-joint just pull on it. It has a double lip that wraps over the edge of the sheet metal. Good luck.
