Ok, it was the voltage regulator. I somehow managed to drive all day yesterday on the battery and got to work today as well, where my car died as it hit the parking spot. A buddy brought over the vr from Roberti, and I put it in after work. Whoever said "offset screwdriver", I owe you a big thank you. Was able to get the job done in about 30 minutes with the aforementioned screwdriver, a flexible screwdriver, and vice grips. After I put it all back together a coworker gave me a jump (thank you, Sarah) and voila, it runs better than before. I'm going to have to take a pic of the old vr. The brushes were obliterated. One was about 1/4 its orginal length, the other about 1/3. Nothing like getting every cent out of a part...
Thanks for all your help.
Mike
