I have been dreading the day that I would have to make a decision as to the long term viability of our venerable '85 SPG. My wife and I have cherished the car since we drove it off the military sales lot in Heidelberg. It has never been through a car wash and has original everything except for the requisite water pumps and brake calipers that were/are problematic with that model. Now, with 192K on it, it's beginning to show some wear. The dash is cracked and the seats are worn, but it's still our primary car and in otherwise great shape. We would certainly consider a partial/complete revamping. I'd love to get it upgraded with a fresh powertrain, water/oil cooled turbo and new brakes and suspension. I'm sure that someone on this board has a source that could give me some ideas about restoring it.
