This is what I use ( at link ) ... from a company around the corner from where I live. I got an estimate on a dash rebuild from them and it was close to the cost of a new dash ( big bucks). Found a good used '91 CV dash for a low price at a recycle yard...it looked like the car had been garaged as the dash was perfect and not dry feeling - the skins in the car looked new as well.
Anyway, I had to modify the CV dash to fit my '86 SPG - took a crescent moon slice off each end so it would fit. On your scale of 1 to 10, I'd say for me it was about an 8.5. It helps to have a lot of patience and time - I talked to an upholstery pro after the new dash was installed ( and looking like a new car ) and he said he wouldn't have done it - saying he didn't have the patience for the job.
I also use a custom fit sun screen for the dash whenever I have to park in the sun. Got the screen online - it 's thick and folds and is easy to use. I know the "new" dash will eventually start cracking but it looks good now - gonna see how long I can keep it alive.
