the cluster. Yes, I guess 3W bulbs are supposed to be used, but 5W work very well.
I replaced my incandescent bulbs with 6-led element bulbs. A little spendy at $5 or so plus shipping but I bought two. The first set a year ago one burnt out in six months so I bought two more from another supplier and surprise the newer ones are so much brighter...but I only replaced the RHS. Do a google search on "194 led bulb" and buy a 6-led wedge bulb. The prices and suppliers are changing relatively frequently so pay attention to shipping costs.
One of these days someone is going to put a couple of 1W led bulbs (or even one would work wonders) into the 194 wedge bulb base and really light up the dashboard. then it might be worthwhile to fool with a dimmer rheostat (my 87 is on all the time from the factory) but until then I'm more concerned with longevity.
And yes...the led bulb replacements are whiter...I prefer white rather than the blue bulbs...maybe you can try UV led bulbs and post back how they work!!
