Whittle small plugs out of white pine, taper and scrape mostly round to about fit in line, then as you press them in they compress and will seal very well. Keep all feet away from brake pedals till done, though.
You know, wood is the ultimate environmental material! (Next to rock, which your and my ancestors had quite a lot of familiarity and skill with.)
You're gonna have to bleed some anyways, obviously.
To screw line ends into brass fittings, you need to have a mating face down inside your fitting for the belled end of the line to fit against and be pressed into. That's where the sealing action happens. Not easy to achieve.
A guy who works with me bought a Dodge Cirrus on which someone had gutted the entire brake works out of a rear wheel, shoes, springs, and even wheel cylinder. They had capped the line by running the fitting into some brass sleeve that looked like it was for coupling lines (hex stock, threaded in both ends). They plugged its far end with some iron bolt, I think epoxy'd in. Guess they screwed it in till its flat end mated up with the belled mouth of the steel line, that was the sealing surface.
Bogus but it wasn't leaking.
You might visit a junkyard and pull a metric brake line from some car, specifically a Saab but not necessarily. Then visit a big NAPA store or some other place with it to match to. Or just get an auto parts store to match to a piece of metric brake line - - they all sell it.
