j9j, Before you take stuff apart you should try changing the oil and filter and adding a quart of 'Marvel Mystery Oil' when you refill the crankcase. It seems kind of cheesy but many times that stuff will loosen a sticky lifter (or 16) and it's a lot less work than lifting the cams. Give it about 1000 miles to do it's thing. If that doesn't work then pull the cams. If you have to pull the lifters out let them drain down for at least 12 hours. You should be able to compress a drained, good lifter between your thumb and finger and have it spring back. You won't be able to compress a bad lifter at all. I generally just replace the bad lifter(s). There are a number of reasons that lifters fail to get oil also and it's worth considering some of those. Lifter noise is generally the first evidence of just being low on oil (other than the dipstick).
