Thanks, I have checked and double-checked the oil level. I am running Syntec 20-50 and changed the oil and filter just 2000 miles ago. I know the engine spent a long time between oil changes some point before I bought it, because the filter was pretty much clogged up when I bought the car about 15,000 miles ago. I have been leery of oil additives ever since I saw a website experiment on Lucas oil Stabilizer, which showed that at engine speeds the oil just foamed up, reducing lubricity while keeping oil pressure as normal on the gauge. I think I will probably check the lifters by your method. When you say to let them drain down for 12 hours, does that mean to drain the oil and leave the car empty for that long, or is there some other method to which you are referring?
