Not sure, but the slave in my 89 looked original (AP brand, pretty dirty, greasy and sandy, with the plastic sliding knurled sleeve instead of the later accordion rubber boot) and was blown, rotted and leaking o-rings, when I got it 2 plus years ago. The broken odometer shows only around 97,000 miles, but all signs otherwise are of between 200,000 and 300,000 miles, typical of most of the 900s of that age I've seen around here.
I rebuilt, using metric o-rings, 3mmx29, 3mmx35, and 3mmx39, as I recall, Buna rubber, available dirt cheap at local seals distributor, Seals Unlimited. It's been in flawless service the 28 months since.
I found varnish deposits internally from old fluid, cleaned it up with isopropyl alcohol and the finest of steel wool, wire-brushed the steel center piece hard on a wheel. It had pitting from rust, but only out at the front part, not a sealing surface, and the metal all around the pits was the proper height.
REALLY, chrome plated aluminum? What I saw just looked like finely finished anodized aluminum. I guess you can get chrome to plate onto aluminum alloy, maybe with some other metal laid down first; after all, they chrome plate plastic.
Anyways, there were no flaws or digs in any of the aluminum sealing surfaces, and absolutely no corrosion on the aluminum. It sits up pretty high and dry, and also anything that gets in there tends to get flung out by spinning flywheel, or drains down and out. I'm expecting another 15 years, and if I still own it and it goes before then, I'll just replace the o-rings again.
Years kill them more than miles or number of times pedal is pressed, I'd say.
