is that I can tap on the end of it and send it into the front splined assembly about 1/2". Then, when I pull on the inserted bolt with my fingers, I can pull the shaft back out so that it is flush with the splined front assembly. When I do this, I can hear and feel a "click" as it becomes flush with the front assembly. Using all the force I have in the past, it never comes out beyond this point (being flush).
Btw, what the heck is the name of the splined front assembly that the primary (and maybe all?) chain runs around? I'm getting tired of not using the correct name for it.
Also, what have others used to cut the slave and shaft (if I need to)? I do not have oxy-acetyline. I do have a reciprocating saw, a Dremel, and a cutting disc on a high-speed drill.
