There is a thing called brake caliper grease, which is specifically designed to handle the high temps and not create a corrosive blending with hydraulic fluid. Recommended proceedure for brake caliper rebuild is to apply a fine film along the outer piston surfaces, and since the brake and clutch systems share the same fluid, I don't see why the same proceedure of applying a fine film of grease to the slave piston surface would hurt. Having a fine layer would help reduce corrosion along that metal surface.
The same advice can apply to the clutch shaft. To keep rust away, and to keep movement free, a fine film can be applied to the splined surface. That's different than overapplying it to the point where some would inevitably fly off as the shaft rotates.
About the slave and pressure plate removal: assuming you've got the clutch spacer tool in place, thereby depressing the springs enough to be able to pull the pp and slave cyl out, regardless of how impossible it may seem to get them out, don't give up trying. I say that because it isn't an easy removal. Because of the 3 pins which hold the pressure plate in place against the flywheel and the awkward design of the pp, you'll have to rotate the pp away from those pins in just the right way. If it seems that it's not gonna pull free, keep trying, you'll eventually muscle them out.
To gain even more spring space than the spacer tool will allow, I've seen a seasoned mechanic use a crowbar in the three access points along the pressure plate outer rim to depress the springs, then inserted a nut of the right thickness (I'll guess medium in size, for a 13mm or larger bolt) in just the right place to keep that spring fully depresed. If you watch the outer edge of the pressure plate while someone presses the clutch pedal in, you'll see movement of the spring and it's connecting collar. That's where the crowbar was inserted and pried.
