It's somewhat audible as well as tactile (seemingly from both inside/outside the cabin; also makes a bunch of rattly interior bits squeak in unified rhythm), proportional to wheel rotation speed, not engine rpm, and does NOT directly interact with the brake or gas pedals in any way. Gets distinctly noticeable around 50 mph, peaks in amplitude around 60-65, and then recedes a bit at higher speeds but annoys the f*ck out of me nonetheless, particularly considering all I've $pent to make the car ride smooth at any speed. I can feel it more or less equally thru the pedals, floorboard, steering wheel, seat, pretty much everywhere.
Since I got the car 3 years and ~40k ago, I've replaced a lot of obvious culprits with:
-good used inner drivers, crappy rebuilt axles (they do the 'pop' in S-turns)
-4 new front balljoints which are still tight
-2 new front wheel bearings (rears are still firm, tight, quiet)
-all front suspension bushings; upper/lower A-arm, lower shock, and swaybar inner/outer
-new brake pads/rotors all around last week, MetalMaster/Zimmerman (mmmm, strong but smoooth w/braided SS lines)
-tie rod ends UNreplaced, _look_ like sh*t, but are not at all wiggly/wiggleable even when I'm hauling on the whole front wheel against them. I think if they were the issue the steering wheel would sorta pulse, but it doesn't.
-2 tires were new 2 years ago, other 2 came w/car but still have sufficient tread. None show any belt/tread delaminations or pathological wear patterns.
NOW, all 4 wheels have been balanced within the last 2 weeks, but I hit a curb last January, mentioned in the link below, and had to replace my passenger front wheel. The best I could get was one with a perfect outer rim but the inside rim has a small flat spot, which the seller didn't think would do much to the ride. Now that I'm 2 states into my road trip, is he wrong, or can there be something else besides wheels that vibes like this? Could a flat spot in the rim do this? I'm kinda hoping so because I'm taking a day and have an appointment tomorrow to get it straightened/rebalanced while I wait at that Wheel Collision Center in NE PA... But I'm wondering how hopeful I should be for this fix. I mean, my inner driver boots are secured with hose clamps; would the screws on them do anything?
Ack.
