It was almost exactly a year ago I woke up to find a huge (two feet in length) stress crack on my '92 convertible's windshield. Here's my advice:
Use a local glass replacement company that you trust. This may be different than the one recommended by your insurance company, but it is your right to choose and they will pick up the tab.
Yes, the seal is different. Make absolutely sure that the glass company has the right seal in their hands before they start work.
Don't let them sweet-talk you into a windshield with the dark band of tint at the top. The original windshield did not have that up there for a good reason. The reason? Pull your car up to a stop light exactly to the stop line. Now look at the traffic light. Chances are you've got to peer out from under the top crossmember a bit. (top up I mean) That gets worse when that band of tint is there. I don't know about you, but I rode in a Sebring convertible where the windshield is raked very steeply and cuts off about a foot lower than the 900's and I absolutely couldn't stand it.

It took the glass company three tries to get my windshield done.
First time: We didn't get the replacement windshield in the shipment today like we were promised. Would you like one with a dark band of tint across the top instead? (that would be the second time they asked.)
Second time: We didn't have the right seal. Okay, I thought, I told them that (big flashing lights and sirens) the car was a 900 convertible because I know they have different windshields from the sedan/hatch models. And the inevitable, "you know, we've got a windshield with a dark band of trim across the top if you want that one instead." (Three, count 'em!)
Third time: Your windshield is done. Don't take the flashy orange tape off for twenty-four hours since your car has an airbag and we have to use the super-great grade of adhesive. I didn't mind, my car is blue and that orange tape made me more of a Mets fan.
I hope this helps. Don't let anyone try to convince you anything against what you want. The dark-band-of-trim windshields must be something where their company makes extra money. I am currently the owner of a lovely blue '92 convertible with a smooth, original equipment windshield that seals fine and doesn't make me pop the top open until the light changes. I shouldn't tell you that the car is in storage so I can drive my '88 4-door around for just a few more years, I don't know. That car's windshield still happily bears its August, 1987 datestamp and a bunch of pits.
