There is an alternative in transporting the piece of glass, in theory. I have not had the need to try it out.
Use your Saab's windshield as the support. Tape a piece of soft (Styrofoam?) packing material along the base of the windshield on your Saab. Lay the new (from a junkyard) windshield on this packing material and resting it against the soon-to-be-replaced windshield and tape the heck out of new piece onto the old. You may need to add more packing material in-between the two pieces of glass strategically; to limit the flexing of the new piece to a minimum while not blocking your view.
Good luck.
