1992 900S Overheat?

I posted this on the general thread, but was told I'd get more responses here.
I own a 1992 Saab 900s convertible (non turbo) that I recently purchased and got a good deal. It runs great, but after driving for 20-30 minutes the temp. gauge goes above the middle towards the hot reading. It gets higher when I idle at a stop light. It goes to 65-75% towards the hot. It seems that when the fan comes one that the gauge goes back down. The car has a summer thermostat. Is this gauge reading something I need to worry about? Should I only worry if it gets to the red line? When I park the car it drips a very small amount of coolant (level in resevoir not going down measurably) and also leaks a few drops of oil. Only does this when the engine is still hot, then it stops once cooled. I find myself constantly watching the gauge when I drive and worry constantly - this makes driving less fun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
