Urgency/Cost of Passenger Side Drivetrain rebuild >

My excellent indy informed me that the passenger side inner driver on my 1987 900t will need replacement. The wheel bearing also has some (slight) noise. When taken apart it may be that the tripod bearing needs replacement too. The cost of all this work (just passenger side) would be $1000. He did say if it were his car he would wait until vibration on acceleration occurred since that symptom may take quite a while to develop. Right now I only have an obvious wheel bearing sort of noise on that side at low speed or reverse. Drivetrain is still smooth on acceleration up to 85 mph. From the twinsaabs site it does not look like a DIY repair that is within my skills. Does all of the above sound right? The cost seems high to me but I do trust my indy (Patrick at Grafton Foreign Motors).
