if you are going to replace the tie rod end... back the nut off *completely*. Get a nice hammer, a steel claw hammer works well, and a pair of safety glasses or goggles. Don the glasses/goggles, and hit the outer edge of the tie rod end, the fat metal part between the knuckle and the bottom of the tie rod end. Don't be shy, hit it hard. It will go from being completely stuck to falling apart. The reason to completely remove the nut earlier is that the threaded portion will now spin and if there is *any* resistance in the nut/thread you will have difficulties removing the nut and there isn't any thing to hold onto to prevent it spinning... Then count the turns to remove the tie rod end, and turn the new one in the same amount.
let us know how you make out...
