I can't remember much from the last time I rebuilt one, but regarding leaving it in the car - TAKE IT OUT. It's literally, two bolts. You've already taken the pedal connection off, and probably the clutch line end so its only the easy part left. Couldn't be easier and lets you do it on a bench, not hunched over.
