You're going to find the Chevy had to blow hard because it was bigger; you're dealing with a smaller cabin here. Also, if your heater hoses are reversed or the thermostat is sticking or the heater valve is dead or the bypass valve ('91 onward) is shot you'll have very little heat. That being said, I made it through last year's lack-of-winter with my heater hoses reversed pretty well. It's nice when the seats work, too.
Four good tires. They're cheaper than your insurance deductible, not to mention a good measure against the other wackos out there. I use four straight snows; most of the all-weather tires are still crap in the snow. If not, you may want to look in to the Nokian WR. You'll have plenty of fun with Blazers, whose weight tends to get in the way.
