Clutch - slave cylinder Posted by Todd [Email] (#958) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Todd) on Fri, 6 Oct 2006 09:04:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have an '88 900 8 valve. The clutch slave is on the blink -- lots of fluid underneath. Will hold pressure for a couple of days, then dies. (I was holding out hope that the fluid loss might be the brake master or the clutch master. I replaced the clutch line recently). Anyway, after getting a quote to replace the whole clutch, I am thinking of replacing the slave myself. I've looked at Web sites for how to do it, etc. but still have a couple of questions. I had the clutch replaced about four years ago -- roughly 35k ago -- so I hope the rest of the parts are okay.
1. What is the size of the bolt one uses to take out the clutch shaft -- where can I get one?
2. The clutch was also [sometimes] making a [groaning] noise when the peddle was pressed down -- I suppose it is the release bearing?
3. Can I get by with just replacing the slave and release bearing -- or do I need the other stuff -- seals, etc.?
4. Do I need a pry bar to get the clutch shaft out, or does a socket work? Any suggestions?
5. Can I lift the slave out of there by itself or do I need to take out the slave, throwout, clutch and pressure plate at the same time?
Thank you!
