The bolts with the 12-mm heads that hold the primary cover to the primary case are the right size and, heck, they're right there :-)
Townsend Imports had a great suggestion: "Use a 15/16 shallow socket and a long 8 mm x 1.25 bolt. Put the socket end over the gear the clutch shaft resides in and stick the 8 mm bolt with large washer through the center of the socket to use as a clutch shaft puller. Note: you must remove the plastic end bushing to screw the tool 8 mm bolt into the clutch shaft."
The first time that I did a slave cylinder, I was able to get it out without removing the pressure plate. That was 10 years ago and I've never been able to do it again.
If the pilot bearing doesn't turn freely, you'll want to replace it. They can be the source of lots of shifting ills if they don't turn easily.
