Saabers:
I have ten Saabs... a few two digits, Sonett,99s, convertible, rare 1980 900, and SPG. I was offered a good deal on a 1984 Saab Turbo. Since my 1980 is non turbo and I have been looking for a 16valve to deposit in its gutted bay. I thought of accpeting this 1984 turbo to maybe place the engine in or at least using a couple of parts.
After closing deal and pulling this car off, I was amazed at the power! Idle boned steady, pulled right up to the redline under a lovely hissing sound.(spooling turbo) No nonsense and solid feeling. This H engine is faster and runs better than my 88 spg! I do not feel like parting this car! Open the hood, and there is that old H engine with the buried starter, no intercooler, single overhead.. I drove a beautiful walnut brown 1984 model with burgundy leather and pink carpet in 1991. It was so upscale compared to my 1979 cardinal red 900 EMS, and so fast!
I fully dressed it with the discontinued factory pre-spg kit, louvers, whale tail and brand new spg wheels. A few years later, I remembered wanting to buy a 16valve 900 SPg with those "new styled bumpers" badly. and then the convertible obession kicked in. Where have the years gone? I'm stuck in a time warp/
Now fifteen years later, I am loving a model that I has as a kid.
Even the blunt bumpers, bumper extensions and old fashion headlights, and even those 24 spoke alloys which I hated years ago are beautifully aesthetic. What a beautiful classic. Even drving her, I could see a few heads turning. The 900 will definitely be a classic. Hold onto those 900s!
I have been involved with these cars since 1986, and yet I still do not want to drive anything else...nothing new appeals to me, not even the GM Saabs, or 9000s.
I am so use to seeing the 87 and up 900s that I fogotten the beauty of the 1984 Saabs. Simply curious, are there any Saabers out there that prefer the old styled 900s?
