Sounds to me like a MAJOR vacuum leak Posted by Steve Schwedland [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 88 spg dying / sputtering under load, 88speegie, Mon, 23 Oct 2006 06:44:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have had thois happen to me twice. The first time I had been working on the engine and had not tightened down the clamps on all the turbo piping. The first time the turbo spun up I heard a loudish pop and the car died. Once my pulse settled down and I looked around the engine I found the problem.
The second time was much less obvious and sounds a lot like what you described. That time everything was working great and one of the big vacuum plugs on the intake manifold popped out, mine was fairly easy to find because it was right on top, but I think if one of the side plugs popped out it wouldn't be as obvious. When I pushed the plug back into the hole everything worked great agian. After it popped out a couple more times I replaced the rubber seal and never had any trouble with it again. You can buy yourself a little time on that by pulling the plug out and wrapping electrical tape around it, I did that for a while until I got the new seal.
