clutch bleeding fiasco--long

I finally got around to bleeding my clutch this evening and I fear that I botched the job. I emptied the brake fluid reservoir and refilled it with clean fluid. After removing the various turbo pipes, I unscrewed the slave bleeder with a deep socket, cleaned it up and wrapped it with teflon tape. I screwed it back in and attached the hose from my motive vacuum pump to the end of the nipple. I applied vacuum and sucked out some really grimy old hydraulic oil. To speed the process (is this where I went wrong?) I pumped the clutch pedal several times (part way) with my hand while still applying vacuum. I vacuumed some more (keeping the reservoir full the whole time) and closed the bleeder. I went back into the car and now the pedal gives almost no resistance. I checked the area of the clutch and there is no sign of a leaking fluid and there is plenty in the reservoir. What did I do wrong and what do I need to do to fix it?
