Intercooler pipes refuse to stay on...

(1990 SPG) Of course this sounds stupid, but 2 days ago I was going 90mph on the highway, and the car died. I coasted off the nearest ramp, only to find that the elbow pipe that connects the intercooler to the intake manifold popped off (so that the rubber connector to the manifold was still attached). I got it back together, then yesterday I had the same problem (I was only going 75mph though). This time the rubber connector to the manifold came off. So I took the whole piece out, the rubber connector and the elbow pipe, cleaned them, put them together, and re-installed. Same issue today, this is 3 days in a row. I am not tightening these lightly either, I use a socket wrench for the clamps. And I seldom use more than 13-14lbs of boost.
Has this ever happened to anyone? It doesn't seem like rocket science to me, it is just a few clamps and lining up the rubber connector to the manifold, but there must be some secret I am not aware of. I'm going to have to take the Chevy Viggen tomorrow, which I am not happy about. There's nothing like my old beater on the highway. Any assistance would be appreciated.
