You might go through ALL the rubber in the engine compartment and check for softness and replace. For sure replace all the belts unless you KNOW they were recently replaced.
For a daily commute I'd probably go through and replace all the hoses on general principles.
84 900T was my first saab and I loved it.
IIRC it needed shocks relatively early...if you're going to keep it 100K go directly to Konis, yes $400 but best inna west!
I also put swaybars on...mine had only front bar(!) and two swaybars, ADDCO or somesuch, radically improved handling.
At 60 K and 22 years, you can expect the headliner to fall quickly once you start using it...time is the enemy. Hatchback you can do the headliner with kit from Trollhattan and maybe five clock hours the first time. Hint...use TWO coats of GM super trim adhesive used as contact cement on the headliner, one coat on the fabric. Also, store the headliner upside down for a couple days in your basement or other well ventilated area before you reinstall it in the car....lots less volatiles to smell. I stored mine in a basement storage area in my townhouse way back whne.
And brakes. the car had good brakes but the brake cables failed/seized. The service parts are better constructed but if you lubricate the ones you have and keep the boots filled with high temp grease at the caliper AND grease the caliper every 5K miles they'll last a long time. I had to rebuild mine when they got sticky and never had a problem in 188K miles...they never clunked and worked well with Axxis Metal Master pads. Get a pad retractor tool to rotate the front pistons when they have to be pushed back to put in new pads. Look around and buy some Hawk HP Plus pads for the front. Hand of God stopping power.
Put good tires on it...not Micheline MVX's...find a AAA (triple A) rated wet traction tire.
FLUSH the power steering system or you'll be replacing a rack shortly. clean out the reservoir first.
I only had one or two engine probs on my 84...one was the clutch and trans at 88K. The service replacements were far superior and were still going strong at 188K when the car was totaled. Shift the manuals slowly...no speed shifting or it WILL break. Listen up for pinion gear whine and be prepared to replace the trans. Look carefully at the engine mounts and be prepared to replace them every 100K or so. Have a mechanic look at the lower front A-arms for cracks at the pivot points...this happened on newer models but who knows how far back it went and whether it's age or design related.
If you get a chance to backfit a side mounted (stock version) intercooler it's well worth it for another 20 or so horsepower..the SOHC engine will take it easily.
Other than those...great car and I wish someone hadn't totalled mine!!
