First, what's the socket i need to remove trans drain plug?
I've always done it with a friend of mine, so I guess he always had the tool.
I need to get my own....
I have a drive line vibration that seems to be getting worse.
It starts at about 55 and stays to 85+. It varys on different surfaces - like the uneven concrete on I-20 in Atlanta, it feels like something is about to fall off.
I checked for front play in the Ball joints/wheel bearing etc.
Everything is tight.
I jacked one side up at a time and rotated the wheels - no grrrr, nice and free.
Then I jacked the font end up to check the inners - the grease looks fine.
Just a visual inspection - I didn't pull the axles.
About 7k ago, I did inner driver, tri pods, bearings that carry the tri-pod, new outer Cv's and the wheel bearings don't have much over 15k on one side and I'm not sure about the other.
I'm due for a wheel balance, so we'll see. But I doubt it could cause this much vibration - and the wheels do have weights still on (maybe if lots were missing I'd think otherwise).
So I rotated the wheels while under the car (both are up) and I can hear a click in the diff when I go from rotating one way to the other.
I'm guessing this the the gear lash in the ring and pinion, but should I be able to hear it?
This is rebuilt trans (but I don't know how much they rebuilt) and has at least 60k since it was installed.
All the a-arm busings have been done (upper and lower).
Anything else to check or just wait until it really breaks?
Thanks in advance - Carl
