12mm hex is the correct size for drain plug Posted by Jon [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Looks like a Torx nm, Carl, Fri, 15 Dec 2006 12:45:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Carl, the earlier transmission drain plugs are 3/8" square, just use a ratchet with an extension. The later drains plugs are 12mm hex. I use a 1/2" drive 12mm bit. The newest transmissions eliminated the drain all together. I remove the rear cover to drain these transmissions. You will need a new gasket for the cover. If you are having trouble removing the drain plug, just remove the rear cover, shown in the photo.
As for the vibration, it could be the other inner driver. Normally the passenger side inner driver goes first because of the heat from the exhaust down pipe "cooking" the grease. As these cars are getting older, most of them have had the passenger side replaced, but the driver side may still be original.
Good luck,
Jon
