Hey!
I've got a '90t that the radiator I believe is clogged, so I'm planning on replacing it with the one from my '90s parts car.
What should I be looking for to know that the radiator is good? Fins are straight, not bent over. Clean through it, and when I run water in the outlet, it does come out the inlet first (so I'm assuming not clogged) and not the overflow valve. If my parts car radiator isn't good, I'll buy a Nissen online, but money's tight for this car, so I'd rather use parts I've got.
Ignore the rest of the story if you don't want the long-winded info...
The back story about why I think I need to replace the radiator:
Here's what happened with the daily driver, and why I think the radiator is next. Correct me if I'm wrong here...
Overheating after driving 10 minutes (speed irrelevant). The temp keeps climbing without stopping and pegs red line if I let it. Fans never kick on. Replaced thermoswitch, and thermostat, same problem. If I jumper the thermoswitch, the fan comes on (so electrical works)... Accordingly I figure it's never getting warm enough at the thermoswitch for it to know to turn on. This leaves me with the radiator as the culprit. Been busy, and it doesn't overheat on my 3 mile winter commute, so I haven't worried about it yet. Figure I need to now, and wondering if there's anything else I'm missing. Open for suggestions for things to do while I'm in there.
Also, seeing oil in turbo pipe when I pull that out. How big of a worry is that? Small puddle in the bend S pipe going to airbox.
Finally, got a little leak, looks like engine coolant coming from the block/header meeting near the turbo side of the block. Just saw a single drip there when jumping the car after leaving it sit for 2 weeks, but I've got a good size stain being left on the driveway.
Any suggestions helpful
