I had the same problem with another car recently that was solved with a fuel filter, and a gas tank treatment to expell the condensed water. Since the Saab fuel tanks are plastic, rust is unlikely, but any other particulate matter can cause hesitation and stumbling. Techron concentrate is a good product to run through the tank -- follow the instructions on the bottle.
Checking the fuel pressure after the filter change and cleaner would be a good idea.
Seems that if the coil were bad, it would fail to produce at all. Bad connections can cause havoc though. You might go over all the adjacent connections, and endorse each one. Dielectric grease on the boots of the plug wires, and make sure there are no wires crossing to cause a short. Tough call on troubleshooting it without hands on.
