Do this. remove the two bolts at the lower A arm. undo the clamp at the tripod joint. pull the boot loose at the tripod, sometimes you need to push a screwdriver in under the boot to get it to pop loose.
Get two hammers, regular size. pull the caliper/knuckle assy out and toward the rear of the car, put the handle of the hammer against the back of the caliper/knuckle and put the head of the hammer against the opening. It should just stop the tripod out far enough to keep it clear. Do other side same way. I'm in the middle of this right now, pulled the engine on Sunday. I will take pictures in the AM and document this.
