I would like to thank everyone who so generously took the time to offer their advice regarding my "1993 Saab 900 automatic" troubles last Sunday. I appreciate your instructions (which I printed off for future use) on what to do to check various fluid levels. Your expertise is impressive!
A friend and I managed to move the car backwards in neutral; we spent several hours jumpstarting and charging the battery then driving the car to get it up and running; we checked the oil which I thought the leak was caused by, but the oil level was full; however, the transmission fluid was below the minimum so I actually, and for the first time ever, learned how to put transmission fluid in my car. It took a whole bottle--I hope this is normal. So far, so good. The car is up and running and I see no leaks other than a few spots here and there on the garage floor.
I am planning to let my Saab sit for a couple of months while I am away this summer. What devices (besides jumper cables, which I own) should I buy in order to prevent the same dead battery issue? Or should I just unbolt part of the battery before leaving?
While I was rooting under the hood I did notice that when I poured wiper fluid in, it leaked quite a bit onto the garage floor. I could see a stream of fluid running through the bottom of the car and dripping onto the pavement. Do you think it's the plastic holder or something else that's causing the leak?
When I run the heater, the left and right vents blow heat, but the middle vents to the left of the glove compartment blow cool air. Is this normal?
My air conditioner blows air that seems like it should be a lot colder. When I go to the garage, what should I ask them to do--just add freon, or check the a/c system? Could a regular and reputable non-Saab mechanic do this kind of work?
By the way, I am located in central Maine. And as I stated before, being single, a relatively new Saab owner, and without a "handyman" in my life, such car issues can seem overwhelming. But I am willing to learn so that I can more easily rely on myself!
Thanks again,
Kelly
