With an 82, the wiring harness can become degraded. The insulation on some of the wires inside can soften and flake away. Also a problem is the cat convertor heating up as it ages and overtime can melt the wiring insulation under the ignition console. The starter, located under the exhaust manifold, is also known to cause elec problems with loose, corroded or dirty wire connections. The starter solenoid itself is often a suspect on those older starters.
