Thanks Guys, great advice from all.
I did some research and found a few links with good write-ups and pics describing the clutch and slave replacement. Doesn't look too bad, especially given that its an NA 8V, and that it's an extra car so I can take my time with it. The previous owner thought he had the clutch replaced at some time, but couldn't find any records for repairs. And given the relatively small expense of the kit, seems like replacing the clutch too is a smart thing to do. So I think I will take my first try at a clutch replacement.
When I was looking at the car again last night, I also notice brake fluid under the area for the master cylinder. My indie replaced the clutch master about 3 weeks ago, so I'm thinking of also trying a rebuild of the brake master.
