Where is my brake fluid going? Posted by dave24 [Email] (#457) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dave24) on Mon, 21 May 2007 05:21:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |

I was driving to work the other day, and the brake light flickered. A little later, it came fully on for a while, then went off. Also noticed the brake pedal sinking slowly to the floor at a light. Pumped it and it came right back, so I'm think my master cylinder must be slowly failing.
Got home late and forgot to check the fluid level. The next day, the clutch pedal felt strange - the pedal seemed to be catching on something mid-stroke. Went out at lunch and checked the fluid level - down slightly. Topped it off. Drove home, no problem. Next morning, no issues with clutch, shifting fine, drove down the street and went to stop - brake pedal to floor... didn't even slow down, and pumping didn't help. Returned to house and parked it. Checked fluid, reservoir almost empty. Topped it off.
Over the weekend, I tried to find a leak somewhere but none evident. One other piece of info that might be meaningful... my indie replaced the clutch master about 3 weeks ago.
Any ideas of how to properly diagnose this issue? I'm thinking the brake master is probably bad, but I would like to know where the fluid is going... because maybe the brake failure is a leak and not a bad master.
