Sorry for taking so long responding - I've got limited computer access.

I've clicked 'ELCD' on eEuroparts & it doesn't apply to 87' 16v turbos.

Your description of the CHARCOAL ;) canister valve being opened by the small vac line so gas tank fumes can be drawn tank into the intake manifold via' the large hose more resembles a relay than a diode - nevertheless, I think you're correct...I feel like a dunce for not realizing this myself! It basically works like a turbo bypass valve, or a decel valve on an old 8v (hanging off the air filter canister) - HEY! I wonder if I could jerry rig one of those old decel valves in place of the busted charcoal canister valve? I've got one or two in the beer keg tubs I have brimming w/Saab crap. Though the diameter of the ports is at least three times larger than the large hose going from the side of the charcoal canister valve to the intake manifold...that's a problem. I could use some PVC plumbing reducers perhaps, but I could end up with something that looks like the the candy contraption "Prof. Potts" (Dick Van Dyke) invented in the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"! Ha Ha!

BTW - I ALWAYS go back & check the threads on questions I post...sometimes it just takes a while. I really do appreciate the advice you all provide here. Thanks! :)
