Thanks Alfred, I replaced the failed AMM as soon as the replacement part I bought on eBay arrived and the car started right up and ran, although the idle was still high. ( about 1500 RPM ) Once it had warmed up it started to hunt up and down between 1500 and 1800 RPM.
I shut it down and removed the connector to the NTC in order to roll back the rubber boot enough to get the VOM probes into the back side of the connector. Once I had re-connected the wires it went immediately to a smooth idle at about 800 RPM.....I took it for a test ride and it stalled
a couple of times, but it re-started immediately both times. Back home I put a VOM on the NTC sender and it was reading way too high for a warmed up car.....about 1850 Ohms VS around 400 Ohms ( if I remember the Bentley spec. correctly) . I have a spare NTC from a donor car that I've cleaned up and I'll install that bit as soon as it stops raining here..... Hopefully that will solve it.
