the metal deformation i am talking about is Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: a-arms, Hans, Mon, 16 Jul 2007 10:13:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the part where the control arms rod sits withing the bushing,
after the old bushing is pulled off the control arm, the rod will have deformed into a mushed deformed metal.
much like the lower shock bushing.
when the shock is pulled of the control arm the rod it mounts on is left looking like a deformed mangled mess, the only problem this will make is when the new bushing is in the housing when its tried to be reattached, or slid back on the old control arm its going to be ruff going just because the rod
is no longer in a circular form, its now in a ovle type mushed mess.
but you are quite right the lower control arm will not give a knock sound as in a warning like the upper control arms, the lowers will just snap out of the blue.
having to inspect the lower control arms the best one can do is tell if they are the originals that came with the car, (or best judgement)
id say around 200,000 miles they both should be replaced although they might last for 300,000 before snapping.
never the less their fate is sealed,.doomed to snap unless replaced.
i do like your idea of burning the bushings out, after thinking of how long i tinkered with every tool in the book to pull it, it all came down to two minutes with a little torch one can pick up in the grilling section at home-depot.
