The '90 has antilock brakes, so the '90 outer CVs have toothed sensor rings on them. That's why the part numbers are different.
For a couple of handy references, the link below takes you to the Twinsaabs.com page on transmission number. It's a key to figuring out the meanings of the characters in the transmission numbers.
The picture below is a listing of all of the US-spec manual transmission numbers from '80 to '93, gleefully lifted from Townsend Imports' webpage.
