When you disconnect the ABS computer, you disconnect the ground return for the ABS light, so it goes out. That's reasonable.
The pressure switch / ABS relay circuitry will run the ABS pump, which provides brake boost. And it does that without the help of the ABS computer.
It's normal for the ABS system to lose some pressure while sitting. But here are a few questions-
With your switch setup (turned on), does the ABS pump stop running? It should - when the system reaches full pressure.
When the lights go off, and after the ABS pump stops running, check the accumulator - hit the pedal hard and fast (the Kill The Big Hairy Spider Stomp). How many stomps to get the lights to come on? For a good accumulator, it's 12-15. Less than 10 is a weak one, and less than five is a very dead one. A bad accumulator could explain why the system seems to lose pressure quickly - with no accumulation, it really doesn't have much pressure in the first place.
There are two relays in the system - the ABS pump relay, and the ABS main relay. The pump relay is associated with the pressure switch. Here's some questions-
Where is your switch located? What line do you break?
The next depends on where you put your switch. Pull the ABS pump relay out. Turn your switch on,but leave the car off. Check the voltage on the 10 amp fuse in the box. It should be zero. If it isn't, then the problem isn't the ABS, but the ignition switch relay is providing power. If the voltage is zero, plug the relay back in. If you see voltage on that 10 amp (NOT 30 amp) fuse, then there is a sneak path going on.
So -
How does the stomp test work?
Where is your kill switch wired in?
Do you see voltage on the 10 amp fuse with the car off but your kill switch ON (depending on where you wired it)
