not. The real key is to buy it for a price you'd pay if you knew the engine or trans was toast. You're probably wasting your time trying to find anything out from the owner. Either he doesn't know what's wrong or he does and he's lying. If the body's good and the interior is decent I'd pay about $500 for it. He probably doesn't have a lot of other people willing to tow it off. DON'T get it running before you buy it or he will probably back out. I've bought a lot of non-running cars and quite a lot of the time it's something that seems major but turns out not to be if you have a little "inside" knowledge (like you can get from this board). I'd jump on it.
