Rob,
The most likely and common cause of what you are describing is a problem with the 1-2 accumulator. This is a piston located above the 3-2 drain valve which has 2 rubber o-rings. If the o-rings are damaged the cushioning effect provided by the accumulator can be diminished or lost altogether. Sometimes the piston gets stuck in the bore as well. Other things can cause this problem but an accumulator defect is what I have seen most often. Dealing with it involves removing the front pan (while draining the ATF), removing some of the oil pipes and unbolting and removing the 3-2 drain valve at which point the 1-2 accumulator will drop out into your hand. If it's stuck it can be blown or "tickled" out of it's bore. Inspect the bore for damage. Get new o'rings from Saab or try Erikkson Ind. Good luck.
