Gussaab,
The clutch shaft is retained when fully seated by a wire snap ring carried in the upper chainwheel. So when you push it fully home it should snap in. Drawing it out requires enough force to overcome the snap ring. I usually just screw a bolt into the end of the shaft and then lever it out with a pry bar. If it doesn't snap when you push it in then there's something wrong with the snap ring, like it's been spread way open or it's missing, or you're not pushing the shaft in far enough. After the shaft is fully seated you are supposed to install a kind of plastic bolt in it's end before replacing the cover. That bolt is white plastic and instead of a hex head it has four wings. It would rub on the cover if the shaft started coming out. You pretty much have to get most of this stuff from used parts sources nowadays. Saab may still sell the plastic bolt but used ones work fine at 1/2 the price. Good luck.
