Wow, sounds like you have a nasty quandary on your hands...that I would be happy to remove, ha, ha. I would keep the original...there are master painters/restorers out there that would be able to restore the lustre. The fact that the door wasn't able to match the original, as per Saab testers, just adds to the history and venerability of this vehicle. I have a similar quandary...though not quite in the same ballpark. Black, Arizona 1988 SPG, that has very minor cracking on some portions of the paint job. Also, some hack touchup on the hood. In my case, since the car is not as rare as yours, I think I will employ a known guru to at least do a proffesional "touch up" with original paint and clearcoat if neccessary. To alter the original hurts, but in my case, it seems neccessary to restore to it's meant lustre. If your paint is at all OK, give restoration a try. You can always have it repainted later if it doesn't meet your dreams. I'm sure there are some killer modern paints that would shine like hell and approximate the original. Good luck and let us know what you decide. Poor guy (sic).
