Keep the car body paint all original. With some work and the right modern products it can likely be made "close to new", and still be original.
For the wheels and SPG panels, get another set of good units and have them refinished to match the original body paint on the car, after it has been refinished. Then store the OEM units properly, and install the substitute SPG panels and wheels with new tires.
Costs some $$, but you can enjoy the car with it looking it's best, yet it can be returned to unblemished original condition. Best of both worlds. Is the door visibly different at this point in time?
