Pearl SPG Restoration question: Repaint or NO Repaint

Ok. Here goes. I am the lucky/proud owner of one of the early SPG prototype cars. They were painted a Mother of Pearl White with a red leather interior.

Here's the question: I am slowly restoring this car and I have a fundamental question I want to pose to the C900 community. Should it be repainted? The car has decent paint on it. No rust. It's just discolored and faded. The SPG panels and wheels have yellowed to the point that they don't match well.

Right now the car is 100% original. I was able to find original interior bits to restore it without changing anything. It does need a headliner - which isn't a problem.. and I am going through the engine to get that up to snuff...as well as renewing the door and window seals, fixing all the electrical gremlins, etc.

But the exterior paint has me stymied. On one hand this car could be smack-dash beautiful with a pro-paint job done right... on the other hand there's a lot to be said for "original paint".

So...I am asking all of you. This car is as much a part of the Saab C900 "story" as anything out there and I don't want to do anything that will jeopardize the historical significance of it. I mean...the car can "always" be painted ... but once it is - it can't be changed back.

I am not concerned about the value of the car per se but I don't want to ruin it either.

I should also make note of the point that this particular car has had its driver's door repainted as part of an official Saab test. I have documentation that shows that the repaint was done by Saab at the factory to determine how easy it would be to match the color if the pearlescent white needed to be repaired. The factory was not able to get a perfect match and that may be why the color was never officially offered.

So...that's the story...what do you all think? Repaint it or keep it original?
