Drake, I had to do some patching up of the headlights on my present ride, a '92. I had a couple headlights/housings that had come from a wreck that for some reason I hadn't pitched out, and they provided the nylon pieces to replace the stripped out and loose parts.
Ones on my car weren't the originals as they had headlight aiming nubs on the glass tho the car came with headlight wipers. But anyway from age or UV or both, one of them, one threaded block the adjuster screw runs thru was all stripped out and some of the nylon pieces were like crumbling away on their exterior.
As I recall I got the parts out of the busted housings by busting them up some more, hacksawed thru to the opening the nylon block was pushed into as there was no trigging it from the backside and extracting it. The adjuster knobs, also nylon, can be pried off the screw shafts where they are held on by a fatter knurled section. I think I needed to do this to get some of the parts out, went back on later nice and snug still.
The big threaded block pressed into the housing and popped into place.
Up north here the rust goes crazy on the screw threads and while they were out I wirebrushed them on a grinder to clear that all away and lubed with neverseize.
Also wirebrushed the ball ends of the adjusters. I scavenged the nylon ball sockets I needed off the broken headlights, and saved a few I bought from the dealer for future projects. Those I believe are still available tho pricey. Pry out, push into, black plastic cups, which are very brittle so be careful.
The best news of this for me was I used every possible scrap off the busted housings and so was delighted to be able to throw them away.
In a pinch you could possibly jam those blocks onto the threads of the adjusters by cramming some cotton twine in there or bits of rag. Instead of, or maybe with, my favorite repair item, epoxy glue or JB Weld putty or something, but just make sure your adjustment is about right on cause you may never get it to move once you're done.
If you have to go to a junkyard for pieces just look for good solid headlights, not wobbling, and not too sandblasted, and do a complete swap.
Kinda ominous for the future that these can't be dealer bought any more, as they're plainly sort of a consumable.
Note to Saabophiles, throw yourself a few pairs of junkyard headlights in a dark cool corner somewhere against the day when...
