You don't need to take any of that stuff out, but I do recommend taking out the distributor (make the marks of course) and replacing the oil seal while you're in there. The vac advance is a circular fitting that sits on a nub that rotates the inside of the distributor, hence changing the timing. I think I changed mine with a long flat-blade screwdriver and about fifteen minutes. Don't move or damage any of the hall effect stuff inside. You'll enjoy nice, smooth running when everything goes back together again, not to mention decent mileage.
